Memorial Portraits are very dear to my heart. When I first found out that our little neighbor boy was diagnosed with leukemia, I felt so helpless. I didn't know what else to do but pray. After his diagnosis, he died one year later at 5 years old. Not knowing how to enter into that kind of pain, I felt led to do a portrait of him, not knowing how the family would feel or respond. I was blown away by the impact it had on them as part of their grief and healing. I needed to continue to do more for other families that have experienced the same loss. I have been so blessed to be able to honor the life of children that have died. This has been a special way to celebrate their memory.
